Modern Duplex Design - Maroubra Beach, New South Wales
YGP was approached by a property owner seeking the design and construction of a duplex that could comfortably—and stylishly—accommodate their growing family. The client’s brief imposed a number of restrictions and hurdles, but none that our team wasn’t eager to work through.
One of the primary challenges of this project was achieving a spacious home design that left a large enough portion of the property free for outdoor leisure. We achieved this with an approach that focused on consolidation and efficiency. Our decision to keep common living spaces and the bedrooms on separate stories allowed for each to have maximal floorspace. This layout also contributes to maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the home during everyday life.
Because we were able to optimise the efficiency of the home’s floorplan, we were left with ample room to create luxurious outdoor entertainment areas. Ceiling-height glass windows and doors open up the living spaces to the backyard areas, which are both outfitted with large wooden decks. Steps lead up to a raised lawn, where there’s plenty of space for the children to play.
The duplex’s exterior channels the same contemporary styling that is present indoors. Both units mirror each other, flaunting sleek sections of black and white siding, as well as frosted glass panels on the private balconies.
